A Dubai traffic fine check is free and takes about a minute: enter your plate number or traffic file number in the Dubai Police app, on the RTA website or in the RTA Dubai app, and every unpaid fine on that record appears with its amount. For fines from Sharjah and the northern emirates, use the MOI UAE app.
You can pay in the same place you check, by card. This guide covers every official method, the details each one needs, instalments, black points, discounts and what to do if a fine looks wrong.
Dubai traffic fine check: every official method
The UAE government portal lists Dubai Police, RTA Dubai and the Ministry of Interior among the official platforms for checking and paying traffic fines online.
| Method | Search by | Shows | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Police app or website | Plate, traffic code (TC) number, licence number or ticket number | Dubai Police fines; with UAE Pass, black points too | Most Dubai drivers |
| RTA website | Plate, traffic file number, licence number or fine number, or UAE Pass | Vehicle fines, including fines from other emirates | Quick check without an app |
| RTA Dubai app or Dubai Now app | UAE Pass, or the same details under Pay Fines for Others | Your fines, or someone else’s | People who already use RTA apps for parking and nol |
| MOI UAE app | TC number, licence number, plate number or Emirates ID | Fines across the federal system | Drivers with fines in Sharjah, Ajman or the northern emirates |
| Dubai Police call centre 901 | Your details, given to the agent | Fines on your record | When an app shows something unclear |
| Self-service kiosks, Smart Police Stations, RTA centres | The same details, at the machine or counter | Fines, with payment on the spot | Paying in person |
Which details you need
Fines can be recorded on a driving licence or on a vehicle plate, so if a search shows nothing but you expected a fine, try a second identifier.
- Plate number: the emirate, the code (a letter such as A or AA) and the number. This finds fines recorded on the vehicle.
- Traffic code (TC) or traffic file number: your unified traffic number, the same for your licence and every vehicle in your name. It is on the front of the vehicle registration card (mulkiya), after the plate details, and on the back of your driving licence.
- Driving licence number: the number on the front of the licence. This finds fines recorded on your licence.
- Fine or ticket number: from the SMS or notice, useful for paying one specific fine.
- Emirates ID: accepted in the MOI UAE app.
In practice, the traffic file number gives the widest view, because it ties your licence and vehicles together.
Check fines on the Dubai Police app or website
The Dubai Police app is the most direct place to look for fines issued by Dubai Police, and it is free on Google Play and the App Store.
- Open the Dubai Police app, or go to dubaipolice.gov.ae.
- Go to Services, then Traffic Services, and open Fines Inquiry and Payment.
- Choose how to search: vehicle plate, traffic code number, driving licence number or ticket number.
- Enter the details and view the list of unpaid fines.
- Select the fines you want to clear and pay online by card.
If you sign in with UAE Pass, the traffic section of the app shows a summary of your traffic file, including your black points.
Check on the RTA website or RTA Dubai app
RTA runs its own fines search, which covers vehicle fines issued in Dubai and also fines from the other emirates, municipalities and GCC countries. That makes it a good second Dubai traffic fine check.
RTA website
The RTA homepage has a Check Your Fines box. Choose By traffic file and type the number, or By plate and pick the plate code before entering the number. The quick box works for Dubai private plates only.
For the full service, open Pay Vehicle Fines on rta.ae, press Start Now, then enter your details or log in with UAE Pass. Search by fine number, plate details, licence number or traffic file number, select the fines and pay. RTA emails the receipt.
RTA Dubai and Dubai Now apps
Log in with UAE Pass and open the fines section to see the fines linked to you. To pay for a relative or friend, tap Pay Fines for Others and enter their plate, licence, traffic file or fine number.
RTA adds a Knowledge and Innovation fee of AED 20 to each fine paid through its channels. Its customer happiness and vehicle testing centres take fine payments at the counter only when you are there for another service, such as renewing a vehicle.
Check fines in other emirates with the MOI UAE app
The MOI UAE app from the Ministry of Interior is the one app that searches the federal traffic system, which covers Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.
- Install MOI UAE from Google Play or the App Store and log in with UAE Pass.
- Tap Traffic Fine Payment.
- Search by traffic code number, licence number, plate number or Emirates ID.
- Select the fines and pay. A digital receipt follows.
Abu Dhabi fines are handled by Abu Dhabi Police and can be paid through the TAMM platform or the Abu Dhabi Police website.
How to pay Dubai traffic fines
You pay a Dubai traffic fine in the same app or website where you found it, by card, and the payment goes through instantly. RTA also lists cash as a payment method at its centres.
Paying on time matters for more than the fine itself. RTA treats fine payment as a basic requirement for renewing a driving licence or vehicle registration. In August 2026, Dubai Police said it had impounded 497 vehicles over unpaid fines, and warned that drivers can face legal action and be blocked from vehicle transactions.
Your residence visa can be affected too. Since July 2025, GDRFA Dubai has been piloting a link under which residents with unpaid fines on their licence or plate must clear them before renewing a visa, with instalments considered for large amounts. Clear your fines a few weeks before renewal.
Paying Dubai traffic fines in instalments
Dubai Police offers interest-free instalments when your Dubai Police fines add up to more than AED 3,000. The plan runs through participating UAE banks and needs the bank’s approval.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum total | More than AED 3,000 in Dubai Police fines |
| Fines covered | Dubai Police fines only; fines from other emirates or GCC countries are not included |
| All or nothing | All Dubai Police fines on the vehicle owner must be settled together |
| Length | 3 to 12 months, depending on the bank |
| Interest | None |
| Approval | By your bank; the Emirates ID must belong to the vehicle owner |
To apply, open Fines Inquiry and Payment on the Dubai Police website or app, select your fines and choose the instalment option. Depending on the bank, you either set up a direct debit plan, or pay with a participating bank’s credit card and ask the bank to convert it into monthly payments. The bank list can change, so check it in the service first.
Dubai Police also accepts Tabby, the buy now, pay later service.
Are there discounts on Dubai traffic fines right now?
No standing early-payment discount on Dubai traffic fines has been announced for 2026. Dubai Police ran a scheme from February 2019 that cut fines for drivers who stayed violation-free, and it was suspended in 2020.
Several websites claim Dubai gives 35% off for paying within 60 days. That rule belongs to Abu Dhabi: in February 2026, Abu Dhabi Police confirmed 35% off within 60 days and 25% off after that but within a year, excluding severe violations. It does not apply to Dubai Police fines.
Other emirates announce limited discount campaigns from time to time, often around UAE National Day, through their police forces. The MOI UAE app lets you apply any available discount when you pay.
Be careful with offers on social media. In November 2025, RTA warned that a page promising 50% off fines did not belong to the authority, and in August 2025 Dubai Police arrested a gang that sold fake discounts of up to 70% and stole card details.
Black points: the basics
Black points are added to your traffic file for serious violations, on top of the fine. Reaching 24 black points can lead to a licence suspension, reported in 2026 as three to six months, and points stay on your record for one year.
- Check them: sign in to the Dubai Police app with UAE Pass and open the traffic summary, or use the MOI UAE app for a licence from another emirate.
- Reduce them: Dubai Police runs a free traffic training course that takes points off your file.
- Accident-Free Day: the Ministry of Interior runs this campaign each year on the first school day. In 2026, drivers who signed the pledge and kept a clean record on 31 August had four black points removed.
Black points also explain most “non-payable” or locked fines: when a fine with points sits on a plate, the system needs to know who was driving. Through RTA, select Payable Black Points, confirm whether you were the driver and enter the code sent by SMS. If someone else drove, enter their licence details and they confirm the points. Then the fine can be paid.
What to do if you think a fine is wrong
You can object to a fine you believe is a mistake, but the route depends on who issued it. Do not pay a Dubai Police fine you plan to contest.
Dubai Police fines
- Go to the Dubai Public Prosecution website and choose Request to Object a Traffic Fine.
- Enter your personal and vehicle details, the fine number and date, and a mobile number registered to your Emirates ID.
- Write your explanation in Arabic. Requests in English are rejected, so ask a translator or lawyer if you need help.
- Attach the fine notice, Emirates ID, driving licence, vehicle licence and any evidence, such as dashcam footage.
- Confirm the fine is unpaid and has not been contested elsewhere, then submit.
The Traffic Prosecution usually replies within about 10 working days. If it accepts the objection, you must attend the Traffic Court.
RTA fines
Fines issued by RTA, such as bus lane fines, are disputed with RTA. Log in to the RTA website, open Dispute Fines and upload your documents within 30 days of the fine. RTA replies by SMS, normally within 30 working days, and refunds a paid fine to your bank within 5 days if you win.
Fines from other emirates
For fines in the federal system, the Ministry of Interior accepts objections through its website, the MOI UAE app or its service centres. Abu Dhabi Police handles objections to Abu Dhabi fines through its own website.
Fines from other emirates and GCC countries
You can pay most fines from other emirates in Dubai. RTA accepts vehicle fines issued in other emirates, by municipalities and in GCC countries, through the same Pay Vehicle Fines service.
If a fine from another emirate shows as unpayable in Dubai, contact the authority that issued it, usually through the MOI UAE app, or TAMM for Abu Dhabi. The Dubai Police instalment plan does not cover these fines.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Checking only by licence number. A fine recorded on the plate may not show under the licence. Search by traffic file number or plate as well.
- Missing the AED 20 fee. Each fine paid through RTA costs AED 20 extra, which adds up when you clear several.
- Ignoring Salik. Toll gate violations are checked on Salik’s own website, under its violations tab. Keeping your Salik balance topped up avoids them.
- Trusting discount links. Pay only in the Dubai Police, RTA, Dubai Now, MOI UAE or TAMM apps and their official websites.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check my Dubai traffic fines online?
You can check your Dubai traffic fines online in the Dubai Police app or on the Dubai Police website under Fines Inquiry and Payment, searching by plate number, traffic code number, licence number or ticket number. The RTA website and RTA Dubai app also show vehicle fines issued in Dubai, along with fines from other emirates. All of these methods are free, and you can pay the fines in the same place.
Can I check Dubai traffic fines with my Emirates ID?
Yes, you can check traffic fines with your Emirates ID in the MOI UAE app, after logging in with UAE Pass. The Dubai Police app and the RTA website search by plate number, traffic code number, licence number or fine number instead. If you log in to the RTA Dubai app with UAE Pass, it shows fines linked to your identity without typing any number.
What is the traffic file number and where do I find it?
The traffic file number, also called the traffic code or TC number, is your unified traffic number that links your driving licence and every vehicle registered in your name. It is printed on the front of the vehicle registration card, just after the plate details, and on the back of your driving licence. Searching with it shows the widest set of fines.
Is there a discount on Dubai traffic fines in 2026?
No, there is no standing early-payment discount on Dubai traffic fines announced for 2026. The 35% early-payment discount often quoted online is an Abu Dhabi Police scheme. Dubai Police instead offers interest-free instalments for fines above AED 3,000. Treat any discount offer on social media with suspicion, because RTA and Dubai Police have both warned about fake fine discount scams.
Can I pay Dubai traffic fines in instalments?
Yes, you can pay Dubai Police traffic fines in interest-free instalments if they add up to more than AED 3,000. The plan runs through participating UAE banks for 3 to 12 months, needs bank approval and covers all your Dubai Police fines together. Fines from other emirates are not included. Dubai Police also accepts Tabby, a buy now, pay later service.
How do I dispute a Dubai Police traffic fine?
You dispute a Dubai Police traffic fine through the Request to Object a Traffic Fine service on the Dubai Public Prosecution website, before paying it. Write the explanation in Arabic and attach the fine notice, Emirates ID, licence, vehicle licence and any evidence. A reply usually comes within about 10 working days, and an accepted objection goes to the Traffic Court.
