About Gulf Simple

Last updated: 24 October 2026

Gulf Simple is an independent website with practical guides for expats in the United Arab Emirates. Our tagline says what we are here for: expat life in the UAE and Gulf, made simple. We explain how everyday systems work, from residence visas and the Emirates ID to labour contracts, bank transfers and public transport, in plain English and with a link to the official source.

Why Gulf Simple exists

Moving to the UAE means dealing with several systems at once: a residence visa, an Emirates ID, a bank account, a SIM card and somewhere to live, each handled by a different authority or company. A lot of the information online is out of date, copied from another site, or missing the practical detail you need at a service centre or on an app screen.

Gulf Simple was started to close that gap. Each guide answers one real question: what the steps are, which documents you need, what it costs and where to go. We are starting with the UAE. Guides for other Gulf countries may follow later.

Who we write for

Our readers are expats living in the UAE or planning to move there, including people from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Nepal, Egypt, Sri Lanka and many other countries. Some are starting their first job here, some are bringing their families, and some simply need to renew a document or understand a new rule.

What we cover

Our guides are organised into eight topic hubs:

  • UAE Visas & Emirates ID: residence visas, renewals, status checks and the Emirates ID.
  • Jobs & Labour Law: employment contracts, working hours, leave, end of service gratuity and your rights at work.
  • Money & Banking: bank accounts, sending money home and everyday payments.
  • Travel & Transport: public transport, Nol cards, driving and travel in and out of the country.
  • Living in the UAE: housing, utilities, family matters and everyday paperwork.
  • Ramadan, Hajj & Religion: religious seasons, public holidays and what changes for residents.
  • SIM, Internet & Tech: mobile plans, home internet, UAE Pass and digital government services.
  • News & Updates: rule changes and announcements that affect expats, based on official sources.

About the founder

Gulf Simple was founded by Arslan Ahmad, who writes and reviews our guides.

Arslan Ahmad has lived and worked in the Middle East for 9 years, in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. He knows the expat systems from the inside: visas and residency, Emirates ID and Iqama, labour contracts, banking and money transfers, and the everyday paperwork that new arrivals find confusing.

He founded Saudi Life Guide and Gulf Simple to give expats clear, step-by-step guidance based on official sources. Every guide is checked against government portals before it is published.

How we work

  • We start from official sources such as u.ae, ICP, GDRFA Dubai, MOHRE and RTA. Reputable news outlets come second.
  • Every fee, date and rule in a guide is confirmed on the source page before it is published.
  • Each guide shows a Last updated date and a list of the sources it is based on.
  • AI tools may help with drafting and with images, but a person checks every fact. Featured images on our guides are illustrations, not photographs of real events. Screenshots of official websites are labelled with the source and the date they were taken.
  • When something is wrong, we correct it and the Last updated date changes.

The details are in our Editorial Policy and Corrections Policy.

Independent, not official

Gulf Simple is not a government website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to ICP, GDRFA, MOHRE, RTA, Dubai Police or any other UAE government entity, and we do not use government logos. We do not process applications, sell visas or act as an agent for anyone.

Our guides are general information, not legal, immigration or financial advice. Before you pay a fee or submit an application, confirm the details with the authority that handles it. Our Disclaimer explains this in full.

We do not publish paid, sponsored or guest posts, and we do not sell links.
